On Air

Today we had the truly great pleasure of helping to spread the word about our story of adoption on our local radio station! It was so much fun and something that none of us had ever done before.

Mr. Varner, the CEO of WMUG was our guide for the day. He was so, so sweet to Stella!

When we originally were invited to come to the station, we thought that we would just be recording an interview with Mr. Varner for the Sunday program. So it was a surprise for us that before we even walked in the door, he told us that there was a program recording live right then and asked if we would like to be a part of it.

So we walked in the door, got a hearty welcome hug from Ms. Lillian O, and were handed a pair of headphones.

After our on-air interview, we sat down with Mr. Varner for our interview with him. He asked great questions and was extremely kind and tolerant of our stammering. I thought I'd be nervous, but he made us feel very comfortable. We weren't coached on any of the questions, so I had to do some thinking on my feet - not one of my greatest strengths.

When we finished the segments for Sunday, we recorded a couple of 30 second "spots", or commercials, for our benefit concert. Jason must have been a radio broadcaster sometime in his past because his spots were perfectly timed, articulate, and covered all the necessary information. Each of us recorded a segment - even Stella! She did a super job!

When we finished with Mr. Varner, our friend Jackie Kuehn came into the studio to prepare for her Tuesday noontime show. We were privileged to be given a few minutes with her, as well. She asked some questions that Mr. Varner hadn't asked, we talked about the concert again with her, and we provided them with some music of the Jonathan Batiste and the Stay Human Band.

(Please notice Mrs. Kuehn's perfectly coiffed hair. Although I didn't pay any attention at all to how I looked for our radio time, she was busy combing her hair before her segment - to the great delight of Mr. Varner who good-naturedly teased her about the whole thing.)

You can hear us on:

Thanks so much to Mr. Varner, Lillian O, and Jackie Kuehn for their kindness and hospitality to us!
