After much consideration, we decided to take the plunge and enter the world of international adoption. We saw the Lord opening a door for us - a wonderful opportunity - and after some great advice from friends, walked through it. In just eight days we were matched with a little boy from Ghana.
This is Kwabena. He was taken to an orphanage which has a partnership with the adoption agency we are using, Faith International Adoptions when he was 18 months old. FIA matched his file with ours and we started seeing miraculous stuff happening.
Shortly after we were matched, our case worker, Kelsey, was leaving for Ghana on a trip that had long been planned. The timing was so perfect that shortly after Kwabena came into our lives, we were able to get first hand accounts of what he was like from someone that was closely involved in the process. Plus, we got great pictures.
We found a family that had recently completed an adoption in Ghana. We contacted them, hoping they would be willing to communicate with us and help us navigate the adoption process. We learned that they not only adopted through Ghana, but had also adopted from the very same orphanage. In fact, they remembered our Kwabena, having been there just a few weeks after he arrived at the orphanage. They even had pictures of their son and Kwabena together!
The next miracle was almost too much to imagine and convinced us that we had a divine appointment with this little boy. A young lady from our church that we have known since birth, decided to spend this summer volunteering with an international organization that places workers in orphanages. With no knowledge of our adoption plans, she chose Ghana as her destination country. A few days before she left, we told her that we were adopting Kwabena and hoped that she would be able to somehow meet him. When she received her specific placement, she found that she would be working at an orphanage that is a two-minute walk from our son. She is there now and can see his orphanage from the window of her residence. She has met him and will see him again, hopefully frequently, before she leaves. Only the Lord could orchestrate something like this.
Since the name Kwabena was assigned to him when he arrived at the orphanage and is not likely his birth name, he will receive the name Hugo when he becomes a member of our family. We can't wait until he arrives and we'd love to share our excitement with you. See you at the concert and together we can Bring Hugo Home.
